Welcome to Youth Theatre @ the U!

Thank you for registering for our programs. To ensure the best experience for your child, please review and adhere to the following policies. Your child’s registration will be confirmed via email with additional information.

  • Liability Waivers
    • All participants must complete a Liability Waiver form once per semester.
  • Campus Alerts
    • Parents and guardians are encouraged to enroll in the University of Utah Campus Alert system to receive important emergency information.
  • Age Policy
    • Programs are designed for specific age groups. Participants outside the age range cannot enroll.
  • Early Arrivals and Late Comers
    • Drop-off is no more than 10 minutes before class. Late pick-up fees are $5.00 for every 10 minutes. In emergencies, contact us at 801-581-6984.
  • Absences
    • No refunds or partial refunds for absences. Participants should attend all scheduled days.
  • Refunds and Cancellations
    • Full refunds for cancellations due to low enrollment.
    • Refund requests for after school classes must be made 10 days before the beginning of the class.
    • No refunds for production ensembles or conservatories.
    • Summer Camps: Refund requests one month in advance receive a full refund less a 15% fee. Requests one week before camps begin receive a 50% refund less a 15% fee.
    • For emergency closures, credits for future programming may be provided.
  • Payment
    • Full payment is required before the session begins. No prorating for classes or camp days missed.
  • Parking
    • Abide by parking restrictions at all locations. For U of U campus, purchase parking passes at commuterservices.utah.edu. Vehicles may be ticketed without a permit.
  • Accommodations
    • Contact us in advance for special accommodations. Our staff cannot provide one-on-one support but will work to meet needs where possible. For more information, contact the Office of Equal Opportunity at 801-581-8365.
  • Behavior Management
    • Zero-tolerance policy for safety threats.
    • First incident: Staff discussion with the participant.
    • Second incident: Guardian contact and possible dismissal for the day.
    • Repeated incidents: Dismissal with no refund.
    • No drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or weapons. Violations result in immediate removal with no refund.
  • Waitlist Policy
    • First-come, first-served basis. Guardians will be notified of openings via email. Follow instructions to claim a spot.
  • Cellphones and Smart Watches
    • Personal electronic devices are discouraged. If brought, they must remain in bags. Persistent violations may result in staff holding items until pick-up.
  • Discounts
    • 10% off for multiple class registrations in a semester.
    • 10% sibling/family discount per additional participant.
    • No discounts for University Employees.
  • Class Size
    • Enrollment limits vary based on age and program type, typically between 6-18 students. Some classes have multiple instructors.
  • Student Health & Emergencies
    • Staff will contact parents in emergencies. For medical conditions, inform us in advance. First aid is provided; professional medical attention will be sought if necessary.

Conservatory Audition Form

Entering 9th–12th Grade

8th graders can apply to audition. 

This program focuses on the rehearsal process and production.
Students rehearse a show developed for the group while attending masterclasses with their instructors, university faculty, and guest theatre artists.

The session concludes with a public performance in the Babcock Theatre.

Tuition: $1050.00

Senior Ensemble Placement Form
Students enrolled in Senior Ensemble will complete a short supplemental form in the registration system.
The form includes a brief video (monologue or song) and a few short questions about interests and goals.
This is not an audition.
It simply helps our teaching team get to know students before the session begins so we can plan the work and support everyone’s strengths.
The form will appear in your registration account and is due 30 days before the session begins.
Students may apply for leadership roles including:
Assistant Director, Assistant Choreographer, Dramaturg, Stage Management Apprentice, and Design Lead.
Leadership Lab meetings support advanced artistic work.

Entering 6th–8th Grade

Students deepen their skills in acting, movement, and storytelling.
They choose a focus area such as Acting or Musical Theatre and select electives while rehearsing a one-act production with their ensemble.

The session concludes with a performance in the Babcock Theatre.

Entering 4th–5th Grade

Students train in voice, movement, character development, and ensemble collaboration.
They choose a focus area such as Acting or Musical Theatre and select electives that support their training.

Students rehearse a short one-act play/musical throughout the session and present it in the final performance.

Tuition: $950.00

Entering 1st–3rd Grade

Students explore acting, movement, music, and visual art through imaginative storytelling.
Each day includes theatre games, creative activities, stagecrafts, music and movement, and rehearsal for a short story dramatization with songs.

The session concludes with a mini-performance for family and friends.
