ABOUT THE AUDITION

The audition will be broken up in two parts: Singing and Dancing. Nothing will be too difficult, it's mostly to see how quickly you can pick up material.

For the Singing Audition we will sing a portion of ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE from the show.
For the Dance Audition we will be using the music GREEN EGGS AND HAM from the finale/bows of the show.

Here are the music tracks if you'd like to get familiar with the music before Friday.

  • Our auditions are run like a callback. Everyone will participate in three parts of the process - singing, dancing, and acting. Auditionees will be taught a song from the show and asked to sing 16 bars individually. They will also learn a short dance combination and asked to dance in a small group. Auditionees will also be given a short scene to read in a small group, too.  Not only are we looking for talented young people, but we also like to see how well they work with others and how quickly they can pick up music and other material.
  • These materials (scenes and music) will be sent out prior to the audition for those who have filled out the audition form.
  • Auditionees should plan to be there for the entire time of their audition block.

Auditions

Based on a collection of whimsical poems by Phillip Van Wagoner, Could You Hug A Cactus? is a musical revue that follows a group of kids as they come together to create a show that’s bursting with poems and creativity. One by one, they each share their imaginative creations, until a nervous performer panics and refuses to contribute a poem. Can the cast help him shed self-doubt and ignite a creative spark?

Auditions are by Video Submission. Auditions are due by January 17th.

Why We Broke Up @ the GSLFringe

A blanket, a teddy bear, a book of poems, a paper crane, and other items collected over the course relationship are featured in Why We Broke Up, an original piece written by Youth Theatre Conservatory. Students wrote fictional break-up letters which detailed why they were returning a specific item given to them by their ex.

Youth Theatre's Conservatory is an award-winning training program for advanced high school actors. It is open to students who want to take their work to the next level. Conservatory students regularly travel to perform and compete in state and national competitions. Student Directed

Spoon River Anthology @ the GSLFringe

Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters is a collection of short poems that collectively narrates the epitaphs of the residents of Spoon River, a fictional small town. As the citizens reflect on the dreams, secrets, and regrets of their lives, they paint a gritty and honest portrait of the town as all of their pasts are illuminated. High School Students from Youth Theatre's Virtual Summer Sessions have chosen the characters to play and the pieces to share. Directed by Sydney Stephan Assisted by Francesca Hsieh

Summer 2020 goes Virtual

First of all, I want to thank everyone for your patience as we have tried to figure out what we can and cannot do this summer. Youth Theatre will not be holding any in-person classes this summer.

I understand that many of you may not be interested in a virtual camp. I get it. My 12-year-old daughter's online school experience this spring was full of ups and downs. But, I just finished directing an online production with students ages 7 to 14 and I was so pleased with how Zoom rehearsals turned out. I was surprised by how the online platforms we used allowed me more time to get to know and work with students individually. For those of you with students who are missing a little theatre in their lives, we hope to spark their imagination and bring a little joy.

I do hope you and yours are all doing well at this time.

Warmly,
Penny Caywood ~ Artistic Director
